SWP are pleased to be starting another project with Sunninghill Contractors to develop new cottages on an existing site in Cowfold. The existing older buildings are to be demolished to make way for the new low rise residential blocks. These are to be traditionally constructed and located to make better use of the site, whilst creating additional parking and a new road access for each.
The soil investigation indicated Weald Clay Formation soils and will exhibit a medium to high volume change potential. Due to the large mature trees on the site the foundations were ideally suited to piling.
The site drainage was a bit of a muddle, with very shallow drains, some appearing to discharge in the wrong direction and open ditches not aways with a clear outfall locations. There was also an existing drain diversion required. Following some additional investigation on site, we came up with a team effort to find a suitable solution.
The foul drainage had to run the shortest route to another discovered slightly deeper manhole to the south of the site and with larger pipes and a shallower gradient, we just got this in under gravity. The surface water, which was believed to enter the ditch, was re-diverted to the main sewer in the road which now correctly picks up the site requirements.
Another compact and brown field site being repurposed for modern housing. Site work has now started, and we hope for a simpler build now that the historic site issues have been resolved.
